DIY SPRINKLER SETUP
TURF NEEDS 1-1.5 INCHES OF RAIN/WATER A WEEK TO STAY STRONG AND ALIVE!
Just like you - turf, trees, and shrubs need water to survive. Without water your grass will be prone to heat stress, weeds, quackgrass, coarse fescue, and ultimately curl up and die. A professionally installed sprinkler system is the best way to achieve optimal results.
IF A SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS NOT AN AFFORDABLE OPTION
With a little bit of planning you can set up sprinklers with timers to achieve really good results. It may not be as thorough as a professional installation but, with a little time and effort, it can work great.
PLANNING & POINTERS - SET IT AND FORGET IT
-
Space sprinklers so there is at least a 50% overlap. (Professionals allow 100%.)
-
Set timers to run between 5am - 9am. (Watering later will promote fungus.)
-
Water each zone 20-30 minutes - 3 x's a week.
-
You want water deep enough so the roots grow down into the soil.
-
When mowing simply move the sprinkler heads to a "safe" spot.
-
Before winter, remember to remove everything including the timers.
